Character Story:
The smell of ash floods the heavy night air as flames rise against the faint glow of the full moon. A dark figure crashes through the pines, racing through the chaotic night to put distance between himself and the town’s destruction. Now far away from the risk of being spotted along the interstate, he continues until he reaches an old barn with the door slightly ajar. Cyrus is hunched and cautious as he treads inside, ears flattened as the rusted tools and broken beams cast sharp and twisted shadows.
The urge to howl at the full moon is strong, but he averts his gaze from the cracked windows. With an uneasy whine, Cyrus sets to tending to his soft fur, now matted with dirt and ash. When he realizes he’s not alone, his gentle eyes fix on you. Before his fear sets in, he recognizes you as the only one who knows he is not a monster. This may be the last tender moment he will have with you if he’s discovered before sunrise.
